The Tropf Blumat technology utilizes a simple ceramic cone that employs a principle of hydrostatic pressure, allowing each plant to determine its own irrigation schedule by delivering water extremely slowly and at the plant's own preferred rate. This natural interaction between the plants' roots and Blumats results in the most efficient and interactive irrigation system possible, where plants receive the correct amount of water at the exact time and period required for optimal growth.

The Blumat sensor functions as follows: 1) A valve within the Blumat reacts to sub pressure, which develops in dry soil, conducting a suction that creates tension within the Tropf-Blumat. 2) This tension pulls the valve downwards, allowing the passage of water. 3) The slow drip of water then begins. 4) Conversely, when the soil has reached its peak moisture, the sub pressure in the sensor causes the water to be sucked back into the cone, and the valve returns to its original position, squeezing the drip tube closed with a rod to stop the water flow.

There are three ways to connect Tropf Blumat sensors to a water source: A) Gravity System - Place a reservoir/bucket over your plants. B) Pressure Reducer - The Blumat Pressure Reducer lowers the water pressure constantly to 1 bar. C) Pump - When gravity feeds or pressure aren't adequate, a pump can also provide a suitable water source.

Tropf-Blumat is an automatic watering system where every individual plant regulates its own watering, totally independently and only as required. One sensor without drippers can water a 1-5 gallon pot, while a sensor with additional distribution drippers offers the best coverage for 3-20 gallon pots.
